Tame Flat Iron FAQs

Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Tame:

Q: How do I turn on/off my Tame?

A: Press and hold the Power Button for 2 seconds located on the device handle. Press and hold the Power Button for 2 seconds to turn the device off.

Q: How do I switch between temperatures once my Tame is on?

A: To switch between temperatures, simply press the plus or minus sign to raise or lower the temperature. Once you raise or lower the temperature, it will blink a few times and then settle on the selected number.

Q: How do I lock the temperature on a certain number?

A: Once you reach the desired number, double click the power button to lock it (verified by a red dot), then double click again to unlock it. NOTE: Locking the temperature disables the function of all the buttons, so you will need to unlock the temperature by double clicking the Power Button before you can turn the device off.

Q: How should I store my Tame?

A: Unplug your Tame and allow it to cool, use the Handle Lock Mechanism to lock the handle in a closed position, and then store it in a cool, dry place. To prevent damage to the device and for your safety, do not wrap the cord around the device (loosely coil it separately), don't hang the device from its cord, and unplug from the device's plug itself (don't pull from the cord).

Q: Can I use Tame on wet hair?

A: We recommend using Tame only on damp or dry hair, so if you are fresh out of the shower, we suggest towel drying you hair before use.

Q: How do I clean the handle, and how often should I clean it?

A: To remove any residue or buildup, clean the handle at least once a week by taking a slightly damp cloth and wiping down the body of the unplugged device. Do not use soap.

Q: How do I clean the Titanium Tourmaline plates?

A: Make sure the device is turned off and completely cooled, then wipe down the Titanium Tourmaline plates with a slightly damp cloth. Make sure to carefully clean around the edges to remove any hair product overspray.

Q: How long does it take for my Tame to cool down?

A: Depending on what temperature your Tame is set at, the time it takes to cool will vary significantly. We recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before attempting to handle your tame once off and unplugged, but always be sure to grab from the handle—if for any reason you need to touch the Titanium Tourmaline plates, make sure to hover your hand over them before touching to check for radiating heat and ensure your safety.

Q: The Titanium Tourmaline plates feel loose, is that supposed to be that way?

A: Yes. The plates are hovering, so they are more mobile and contouring while styling.

Q: Why are there holes on the Titanium Tourmaline plates and on the upper side of the frame?

A: These holes are specifically designed to release steam, avoiding any burning or singing when styling with damp hair.

Q: Can I use Tame on synthetic hair?

A: No. We recommend not using Tame or any other heat-styling hair tools on hair that isn't natural.

Q: What temperature when flat ironing with Tame is right for me?

A: This varies for everyone. You always want to flat iron your hair with the least amount of heat possible, while still achieving the look you want. So try it out and find the heat that works best for you and your hair.
