Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Microdermabrasion?
A: Microdermabrasion is a procedure that uses suction and exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin. By removing this top layer, fresh, younger looking skin is produced in its place.
Q: What is Exfora?
A: Exfora is an at-home tool that brings you the similar results as professional microdermabrasion treatments. Exfora's exfoliation and vacuum suction uncovers younger skin through: Diamond crystals gently removing the top layer of dull, dead skin, referred to as the Stratum Corneum. These dead skin cells act as a barrier on the skin, and once they are removed, skincare products will be fully absorbed into the skin, resulting in maximum benefits. The tool's vacuum suction helps stimulate, activate, and rejuvenate the skin. This suction also triggers the skin's production of collagen and elastin and it increases the skin's cell renewal. An increased cell renewal is important because it generates new, healthy skin cells that are brighter, softer, and smoother.
Q: How often can I use Exfora?
A: We recommend using Exfora once a week.
Q: Do I need to wash my face before use?
A: Yes, Exfora should be used only on clean, dry skin. Never on wet skin.
Q: How long is auto mode?
A: Four minutes for the full cycle.
Q: How do I know what attachment to use?
A: For normal treatments on the face, we recommend the normal tip. To exfoliate the hard to reach areas, like around the nose, we recommend the Fine tip. For exfoliation on the body, the body attachment is best. The massager tip does not provide any exfoliation but can be used to test the suction strength before using the device on your face.
Q: Who should use Exfora?
A: Exfora is recommended for any individual looking for smoother, softer and brighter skin. Exfora is an excellent tool for improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, pores size, and uneven skin tone and texture.
Q: When shouldn't I use Exfora?
A: Don't use Exfora if you have excessive acne, overly sensitive skin, cold sores, blisters, open wounds, fungal infections or skin conditions, like rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, convex moles, herpes, inflammation or redness. Also, anyone using chemical peels or products that contain hydroxyl acids, intense retinoids, or retin-A, or any similar ingredients must not use Exfora at the same time. Before it is safe to use Exfora, we recommend you pause the use of these products for at least 7 days. If you are unsure if you should use Exfora, please consult your dermatologist and/or physician first.
Q: Can I use Exfora if I'm pregnant?
A: We recommend consulting your physician first.
Q: How should I use Exfora in conjunction with my skincare regimen?
Step 1: Cleanse the skin and allow it to dry completely. We recommend using the Vanity Planet Main Squeeze Cleanser.
Step 2: Use the Exfora device. Remember to read the manual and/or watch the instructional video and carefully follow all directions prior to your treatment.
Step 3: Apply a calming moisturizer once you've completed your microdermabrasion treatment. We recommend using the Vanity Planet Renew: Multi-Perfection Moisturizer. Make sure to include hydrating serums and sunscreen in your regular routine when using Exfora.
Q: How long should each microdermabrasion session be?
A: We recommend four minutes or less (depending on your comfort level).
Q: When should I expect to see results?
A: Many individuals notice softer and brighter skin after just one use. After eight to twelve weeks, individual may see a reduced appearance of fine line and wrinkles, age spots, and hyperpigmentation.
Q: When should I replace the heads?
A: The heads should be replaced about every six months or so. If the rubber gasket grows loose or is damaged, you can replace it at any time. The filter should be replaced every 1-2 uses.
Q: The suction is too strong for me—what should I do?
A: We recommend starting at the first suction level. If you feel like the suction is at an uncomfortable level, you can lower it as you see fit.
Q: What is the difference between auto and manual mode?
A: Auto mode will guide you through a four minute full face treatment showing where to use the device and how to glide it across your face. The manual mode will just start the device on a 10 minute countdown so you can use the device where you would like without the timer that auto mode has.
Q: What if I get red marks or minor bruising scrapes after using Exfora?
A: These results are uncommon; but if they occur, generously apply a moisturizer to the affected area, and stop using the device for about 10 days. These are superficial blemishes and will heal within one to five days. There are several reasons this may have occurred: -- Too much pressure --Using the wrong tip for your skin type --Going over the same area multiple times --Using an aggressive retinol, alpha and beta hydroxy acid, retin A, and other acids etc. --Allowing Exfora to hover in one spot too long, rather than continually moving the tool. -- Not pulling skin tight during the treatment -- Going over an area to slow -- Using the large body tip on the face
Q: When should I use Exfora?
A: We recommend using at night as night time while sleeping is when your skin repairs and rejuvenates itself.
Q: I have acne, can I use this?
A: This should not be used on active acne breakouts.
Q: Can you treat close to the eye area?
A: No. Only treat the skin on the perimeter of the eye socket. You will still see great results even though you do not directly treat the skin below the brow bone or above the eye bone.
Q: What if my Exfora doesn't have suction?
A: If Exfora doesn't have suction, that means that you have received a defective unit. Please reach out to our Customer Experience team to receive a replacement unit within 7-10 business days of your purchase.
Q: Does Exfora remove hair?
A: No. Exfora is just designed to exfoliate your skin, and it will not remove hair.
Q: Do I apply pressure when using Exfora?
A: No pressure is necessary. Instead, just lightly glide the wand over your skin.
Q: Can I use Exfora more than once a week?
A: No. Exfora should only be used once every 7 days. Because the top layer of skin has been removed, you need a full week of skin cell renewal before the tool is used again. Be patient.
Q: Do I need to do anything in-between treatments?
A: Yes, continue with your daily skincare regime. For best results, we recommend using our Main Squeeze Cleanser, Power Trio Serums – Reveal, Defend and Firm, paired with Renew moisturizer during the day, and Firm, Renew and Reverse (exclude Reverse the evening you exfoliate with Exfora) in the evening.
Q: What if I don't see dead skin coming off while using Exfora?
A: Not everyone will see the dead skin residue after using Exfora. This does not mean that Exfora is not working. The amount of residue you see following your treatment is based on your skin type and the climate you live in; more oily skin types and those living in humid climates may not see any dead skin residue. Exfora is still working.
Q: What is the difference between Exfora, Ultimate Skin Spa, Skin For Perfect Skin, Glowspin and a scrub?
A: The Ultimate Skin Spa, Skin for Perfect Skin, and Glowspin are orbital brushes used to cleanse impurities off the surface of the skin. Exfora is a once a week microdermabrasion treatment that exfoliates and removes the top layer of dead skin. They perform very different functions. If you like using a cleansing brush, you will love Exfora. Incorporate them both into your skincare regime for excellent results.
